What Happened to Affordable Physiotherapy (rehab)?

Mitchell Starkman, Physiotherapist, The Movement Centre

28 November 2017

So you hurt yourself and damn, it hurts! Your  doctor says you need the help of a health care provider, and the sooner the better. So, who are you going to see?

  • A physiotherapist?
  • A registered massage therapist?
  • A chiropractor?

Unfortunately, the bigger question might be what can you afford? Cost, time and location all play a role and need to be taken into account.

Cost

On average, rehabilitation therapy lasts for eights weeks. And in Ontario, Canada insurers, both public and private, pay out an average of $85-130 for an initial assessment, along with each of the follow-up visits.

If you see you practitioner once a week for an average of eight weeks then you can expect to pay anywhere from $680- $1080

Location

Not everyone has quick and easy access to medical and rehabilitation coverage. Getting the help of a professional could often be a plane, train, or automobile ride away that you neither afford or find time for.

Time

Unfortunately we can’t keep time in a bottle. There is only so much available for everything we have to do in our busy lives. We run to the car, to the train, to the bus. Once we arrive at work we rush through the day, trying to get done all the things expected of us. The one thing that is probably in most short supply is time. And we haven’t even begun to deal with the kids, groceries, laundry, and all the other things filling up our day and our week.

A Possible Solution

All of these things make it hard to squeeze in a physio appointment along with everything else. Physioready is a powerful and helpful tool designed to give you a solution to all of these problems: money, location, time. And get you back on the road to recovery. A tool you can use anywhere and anytime you want or need.

As a licensed physiotherapist I know there is no substitute to having a trained professional lay their hands on your body and provide the therapy you need to rebalance a joint, a muscle, a tendon – even your entire body. And the accountability of having to answer to a real live human every week is immeasurable!

If you need that type of one on one care, find a physiotherapist or another healthcare provider that you trust and pony up, you’ll soon be thankful that you did.

But that isn’t always a realistic option. We understand that and are here to help.

Another Option

Physioready is designed to offer help for the large majority of orthopedic conditions that can be addressed with the completion of the right home exercise program, at the right time, with the right guidance.

Research has proven this over and over again. With an accurate diagnosis and the right program of personally administered, at-home therapy you can put yourself on the road to recovery.

With the PhysioReady app, you get step-by-step, day-by-day guidance through your rehabilitation process for less than the price of an initial physiotherapy assessment.  And the flexibility of having the solution available anytime you want means you can complete your therapy on your timeline.

Not to mention 24/7 access to your program so you can complete it on your timeline, when you want, where you want.

So, now to answer that question, “what happened to affordable physiotherapy?”

The long answer involves rising healthcare costs, and shrinking benefits and coverage.

The short answer is,  it’s back and it’s called PhysioReady.

Physioready is your digital physiotherapist. It contains expert crafted video guided programs created specifically for your condition.
